The Traditional Ways Of Storing A Password In A Server

Online security is a crucial step for any website on the internet. Due to the huge data of user’s personal information, sites remains in a state of constant theft.

Big companies like Facebook and Google uses highly protected security systems, that only the user of that account is able to access his/her account. They uses IP addresses and stored the information of the devices, which user use generally. They are improving their system day by day, which interact with the user when an abnormal activity appears.

Just the old Plain Text

As a Curiositor, I wonder how this security system works? So, I go through the internet and find some of the traditional ways a password is stored in a server. There are many ways, a password can be stored in a server and the simplest one is, just the plain text. Yup, nothing special here, probably the worst way to storing a password. If anyone gets into the server, it’s a child play for him/her to get all the information about the users.

This is how a random string looks like "C76rKSQ483"

So, the plain text isn’t the best way. Well to make the password more secure, developers move towards a process called encryption. It is a process in cryptography, in which a password is converted into a random string. If someone manage to get that string, he/she can’t understand it. So, the user data is secured. Definitely human are unable to understand the random strings because it won’t make any sense to them, and neither does to the computer or the server unless or until a decrypted key is given to convert the encryption into a plain text and here it is get worse, usually the decrypted key is on the same server where the encrypted passwords are stored. Its like a thief is trying to crack a lock and finds the keys in front of him. Not that secure anymore.

Hash #

But don’t worry, developers have solved this problem, they don’t need decryption key or something that makes security weak. Now they use “Hash”. Nope, it’s not a drug. It is same process like encryption, but unlike encryption it’s a one way road. Whenever a user type the password, the hash uses the algorithm of making its encrypted string and then checks into the server for the same encrypted string of all accounts, when a match is found, it let the user to access his account. But then again, there is a small problem which can tend to be a big one. The “Algorithm” itself. What if someone knows, hows the algorithm work and makes all the random strings, which is almost impossible, but what if he got the power.

In that case, developer uses salt, which adds some more random string in the beginning and at the end, and even though if a  person have the right formula of the algorithm, he or she will never finds out which part of the string is salt and which is hashed :)

Thank you for reading, here’s a security potato with some salt.

How to Block Someone on Facebook just by Messaging them!!!

Facebook Blocked

Facebook started in February 2004 and it was a boom for the Internet. Since then Facebook improves its reputation, features and its policies. Facebook changes its policies every now and then and sometimes these policies convert an authenticate good user into a cheesy bad user.

It was the middle of sunday summer. A friend ask me a favour on whatsapp to send him a photo on facebook which he gave me on whatsapp. I was getting a lousy feeling about it, but as a good friend I gave my helping hand, and this was the moment when trolling generation show its real face. After an hour of sending the picture, my facebook account was temporarily blocked for three long days. I can still use the most of the features like, watching someone post, liking and commenting, but I can not share any post or publish any post, neither do I message anyone -  the main reason people use facebook for.

Whenever I tried to send a message to someone it says that you have voilated facebook terms and condition and has been blocked for using its feature for three straight days. I am using facebook for such a long time and I never do trolling and bulling, never ever post something vulger, then why I am blocked.

I put some pressure on my brain and recognize all the activities I had done that day on facebook. Then suddenly, all the efforts of helping hand make sense. I ask my friend why did he do that. He says he is a hacker and stuff, and later he told me that he is also the victim of trolling, he got 2 days to remove his block. He told me to pass on this trolling to your friends, so that they will know the pain.

I was like, Nahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

Later, I tried to find out "why does facebook is blocking to send a funny pic?" Actually the pic is fine but there is a naked kid, that's why facebook assume that its child pornography pic.

I learn few things, first don't trust friends, especially on social medias and second that not a single message is secure on the internet, they have been constantly analyzed and verified, no privacy. Period.

Here's the photograph

Pic that block out Facebook Users
Pic that block facebook user - we have blur out for obvious reasons
As a Conclusion, I made this post to make an awareness to all the users of facebook. Please don't troll too much that one couldn't even talk to his/her love ones, but still if you get caught in these kind of situation then never forget that facebook is free to use and anyone can use - make an another account :)

Everything you need to know about Freedom 251

Budget phones are the new trend of the year 2015 and 2016. People get all the features at a less price onto their phones which high end smart-phones provide. It has been amazing to watch the rate at which the market of budget smart-phones has grown. Giving higher value for the money has flooded the market place and giving new opportunities to various companies and organizations. And the one such entity is “Ringing Bells Pvt Ltd”.  Established in 2015, this Noida based company makes its product “Freedom 251” viral within an hour.

The Idea behind it, is very simple – it is to make the most cheapest and affordable phone on the planet i.e., ₹251/- thus the name Freedom 251. Their mission and vision is very clear and is to empower the citizens of the rural and semi-urban centers of India. Basically, they are targeting people of our agricultural and rural areas, So that our fishermen and farmers can enjoy the technology at a very low cost.

The price-sensitive phone arrives with features you won’t believe that it could come with that point of price.

       -  4”qHD IPS Display
       - 1.3 GHz Quadcore Processor
       - 1 GB Ram
       - 8GB Internal Memory with upto 32GB Expandable memory
       - 3.2MP Rear and 0.3 Front Facing Camera
       - 1450mAh Battery
       - Android 5.1 Lollipop
       - Preinstalled apps like Swach-Bharat, Women Safety, Fisherman, Farmer, Whatsapp etc.
       - 1 Year Warranty

Every Geek and Technomist knows that creating a smart-phone on the price scale of 251/- is nearly impractical and unreal. Even if someone goes to the market to buy a Micro SD Memory Card, he/she has to pay more than 251/- and yet alone the organization is promising to give a fully functioning Smart Phone. This is what bothering me a lot from last few days. I have collected some information about the organization and the product itself that makes me and you (probably) suspicious about the company.

       1. They are using Adcom Ikon 4 for the design of the mobile phone. They hide the Icon of Adcom Ikon with nail paint at the timing of branding.
       2. No Government officials are involved or no such subsidy if given by government.
       3. They don’t have BIS Certificate.
       4. Started company value was 50 lacks.
       5. Their website is created within a week on 10th of February 2016.
       6. Their payment gateway isn’t integrated onto their website; instead they are mailing the link onto your email.

It was amazing news to hear that now every person can use the present technology to the fullest, but what if it’s a scam. I mean even Chinese phone are above 1000/- So, how could they make a solid phone at 1/4th the rate of Chinese phones.

To some the “Freedom 251” is looking genuine and to some a troll, that’s why few developer makes a parody website of “Freedom 251” in the name of “Freedom 651. Their company is “Doesn’t Ring a Bell Pvt Ltd” which is yet to be established.

It’s good to hear that “Make in India” is working but we won’t tolerate “Fake in India”. This is Jagvinder Singh, Signing out.
